The poem was rendered with surprising vlocutionary powers, and Mr. McNeill, at the finish, was cheered to the echo. Ordination at East Point.
A most interesting meeting was held | with the East Point Baptist Church, on the | 27th ult., to consider the propriety of or daining to the gospel ministry brother R. B. Kinlay, who was for some time 4 preacher in the denomination known as ‘¢ Bible Christains ”; but having discovered that infant baptism—to say nothing of in fant sprinklng—is not taught iv the Bible, and that, therefore, the practice of it is inconsistent in a ‘‘ Bible Christian, ’ he identified himeelf with the Baptist de nomination, and in October last was called to the pastorate of the above mentioned church. The meeting was called to order by Deacon Scott. Paster J. B. Woodland was appointed moderator and the under- signed secretary. After pz-yver by Pastor M. Ross and singing by the congregation, the fullowing list of delegates was pre pared ;—

Some twelve years ago, a young man living a short distance out of Charlottetown was induced by his frieuds to offer for a seat in the Local Legislature. From his ability, integrity of character, and patriot- ism, it was admitted by all that, if elected, he would be a wost useful representative — more especially of that great class consti- tuting the bulk of the province—the farm- ing interests. But Mr. Ferguson had the misfortune to be a lover of integrity, and consequently opposed to those who make and believe a iie. In this contest he was handicapped by the admitted fact that he was an able man and would be a great acces sion to his party and an honor to the prov- ince. The Grit managers and wire pullers perceived almost by intuition that Donald Ferguson once in the House would take high rank, and as he had the courage of his convictions would to them be a most dangerous opponent. Straightway the dogs of Gritdom were losed en him. Slanders, false charges, inean insinuations, inunend- ous sheers, misrepresentations were set afloat in every corner of the Island. But the public had fixed on Donald Ferguson as a trusted representative of the great farming interests of the province, and in 1878 after feur contests he was elected. Of course he immediately filled the pre dictions of his friends and toek the place his talents so well entitled him to fill. His management of his department has been eminently successful, and the government of which he is a member have done more for the interests of agriculture than any government, in the svne period, in the whole history of the Island.

The London Times, commenting en the aspect of trade in Britain during the paat year, states that the enormous production of iron in 1880 has been increased in 1881.
