, We hope there will be a good turnout for this week's game (great hangover cure) for it will mark the final appearance of,several play— ers who will be lost, th- rough graduation, next May. To them we extend our con— gratulations and thanks. Over the time they have been playing for us we th- ink we have an even break on wins and losses and for a school our size, that is a pretty damn good record. With a few smiles from for4 tune it could have been a bit better...anyhow boys, we wish you well...and fans, don't forget to give them a hearty farewell.

'Vince Mulligan's Soccer féam dropped a close one“ 3 - l togthe U. of Moncton, this ends their first season in the league. We think they did well, played a lot of close games and we think that another year will see a big improvement in their record.

We attended a Panther booster Club meeting last' week and many of the mem- bers will be on hand this Tuesday when Jack Kane and Gary Heald are arranging an exhibition of hoCkey and basketball to show what

the approaching season will offer. We sneaked in a couple of previews and really liked what we saw. In hockey, Jack has still to make many difficult cuts and we don't envy him his, job as he still has about 25 still in the tryout st- age and they are all hust- lers...the team will differ from some of the former ones inasmuch as they will be light and will have to stress speed. we won't men- tiafi“53§“aaa駓agcept to comment that it is good to see McCarron and Trainor back on P.E.I. where, we feel, they belong!

The basketball team is working like it has never worked before. We feel the rigorous training pro— gram is bound to pay off. We saw them in action pra- ctise against such old timers as Postie Connolley and Eddie Lawlor and we ' thought they certainly lodked fast...we read, in Maritime College papers

S.M.U. 63 - U.P.E.I. 8, and it didn't seem that close. How can one write, with enthusiasm, on a 55 point loss?...except to note that, although we were outplayed and (possibly) outlucked, our boys never stopped trying and for those of us who bleed at a Pan- ther loss, there was some consolation in that they didn't throw in the sponge

We were somewhat amused at Paul Durant's efforts to make the game SOUND excit- ing and we must commend the judgement of Mike Hennessey who, without a second's de- lay, immediately returned the mike to the studio for a commercial every time S.M.U. scored. The system was excellent but, unfort— unately, the pre-recorded commercial kept referring to the contest as "The most exciting game of the year"...it was anything

elso but. We would make a mild suggestion that they prepare two tapes for fut— ure games. ~ Although several of our players played well we were eaten alive by S.M.U.'s air attack and by Santucci. The game was chippy...S.M.U. has a big rough team and the Panthers were pretty frustrated...a bad combin— ation...at times there were so many red flags on the field that we hoped our boys would mistake it for red clay and think they were at home. All we can say now is "Beat X". Being an old S.D.U. and P.W.C. fan I can remind old timers that there was a time when a Saint Dunstan's team which had a 1-10 record could be regarded, with equanimity, as being succ— essful, if that one win was over St. F.X.! We'll also keep an ear cocked for the result of the S.M.U. —Acadia game...Santucci vs. Cherouck, which will, actually, only decide where the championship game will be played. that other teams are stren— gthened over last year too but Gary insists we'll be in there all the way so we can look forward to an interesting season...trouble is if we are GO0D...where will all the fans watch???
