Appalling Murder in Ottawa.

One of the most appalling murders ever perpetrated in the Ottawa district occurred lon Thursday last, but the news of the heartrending affair did not reach the city {until the 7th. It appears that on the day 'quentioned a cripple named Rohertson, seu of a Vaekleek Hil m:rebaat, left his home ou ahunting expedition. Not, returning, , the some evening a party of friends organ- ized and went in search of him. His uwther accompanied them, but no success was achieved until Saturday, when his wother discovered the unfortunate man in Lis .own room. His skull was fractured, levideut'y by some blunt instrument, and his fae and body also bore marke of harsh ‘treatment. It is thought that after being ‘pummeiled he was left te die in the woods by the villain who aitacked him, but sub- ‘sequently recovered sufficient strength to ciawi home. The Crown Attorney has the matter in hand, and a detective is now at work on the case.

A paper on ‘‘The Teacher Out of School,” read by Mr. Byington, Principal of tne Manitoba Normal School, at a recent teach- ers’ association, contained a number of good suggestions. The following are worthy for record :—The teacher sheuid display the qualities of a gentleman in every act and word, whether on or off the schoo] premises, He should occasionally take part in the ont door spor's of the children, thus mani- festing an interest in their games.
