A Bic Orrer Rerusep.—W. J. Nelson, of Bridgewater, N. S., states that he has refused to accept an offer of $100,000 for the right W. J. Nelson & Co. have to manufacture Minard’s Liniment in the United States, The offer was made some days ago by an English syndicate now operating in the States. The right to manufacture the liniment in Canada is held by C. C. Richards & Co. of Yarmouth.

Westey's Cenrenary.—The Methodist8 of England are preparing to celebrate to celebrate the centenary of the death of Wesley in March, and to build over his grave atomb. It is proposed to substitute seven handsome marble pillars for the pre- sent wooden pillars under the gallery, each ts cost $500. The Methodist Church of Canada has been invited to contribute funds for one of these, and the Methodist Episcopal churches of the United States one each,

Torowro’s Crvic Trovsies.—The civic debt of Toronto is $75 per head of the po- pulation. Toronto has evidently been ‘eading a fast life. Her net debt is $12,- ‘79,000, upon which the average family of live persons has to pay $17.60 a year in- terest. She has spent $3,370,783 of bor- towed money on water works construction since 1804, and now she has a water famine. Her sewers are miserable and her streets are muddy.

The “Colonel” Heard From.

Woopsrock, Ont., Oct. 28.

The latest sensation in the Birchall case is & letter dated October 5, addressed to the prisoner, and sapposed to be written by a person in Jackson, Michigan, and signed by the “Colonel,” a signature that has figured very conspicuously in the case in connection with the telegram that was a riddie to the prosecution. The writer tells the whole story how he killed Benwell. The whole thing is no doubt a *‘fake,” and looks more as if it was written or dictated by the prisoner than any person. The writer is supposed to have been in Birchall’s confidence during the whole plot. He addresses him very familiarly as ‘‘Rex, my dear,” &ec., and tells him he has been watching him since the eventful 17th of February.

A Mystery oF THE SEA.—A correspondent sends the Telegraph a package of letters apparently Danish or Norwegian, which came ashore ats Park Corner, P. E. Island. He understands that there was a box full of the letters, but that the boys who found then: preserved only a few. Other wreckage that came ashore there include a tool chest, a wicker fruit basket, some plank and spool- wood. The spoolwood is in bundles and marked in stencil, ‘‘Carbray.” Lots of plank, logs and other wooden cargo came ashore be- tween Darnley and French River. The cor- respondent thinks the indications point to some Norwegian for Danish vessel a total wreck. He also describes a piece of wood found bearing on one side the word ‘‘Falka,” and on the other ‘‘Greenock.”—St. John Tel egraph.
