TORONTO (CP) —— Eight Cana- dian university students have been awarded postgraduate fel- lowships for advanced study in science and engineering by Shell Oil Company of Canada Ltd.

The fellowships, awarded an. nually, are each valued at a maximum of $2,300, including a $500 grant to the university.

The students, selected by the universities, are working towards master's degrees or doctorates. They are: D. D. Brown, Queen‘s, geology: J. L. Carmich- ael, Laval, physical chemistry; R. Van der Linden, University of British Columbia, chemistry; R. M. McMullen, University of Al- berta, geology; W. A. Piecnonka, McMaster, engineering physics; P. IN MEMORIAM

JOSEPH L. PETERS

The community of North Rus- tico was saddened to learn of the sudden passing from a heart attack early Thursday morning, October 23, 1958, of one of its most highly respected citizens in the person of Joseph L. Peters. Born at North Rustico the late Mr. Peters lived there all his life He was 76 years of age and al- though retired from active work he enjoyed comparatively g o'pd health, took a keen interest in community affairs and was very proud of the economic advance- ment his native vﬂla' ‘ge and made during his lifetime.

A Of a kindly disposition he was a general favourite with young and old alike and he will be grea- tly missed by a wide circle of friends.

In‘ 1930 the late Mr. Peters was bereaved by the loss of his wife (Formerly Angelina Peters.) There are left to mourn his pas- sing, four sons and three daugh- ters, namely Marshall, Midgell; (Rose) Mrs. Arthur Jour-neau; Ella and Austin all of Montreal, P.Q. (Flora) Mrs. Ray Johan, Moncton, NB. Stephen and Gus- sie, North Rustico. A daughter, (Louise) Mrs. Lawrence Gallant; and a son Lawrence predeceased their father. Twenty one grand- children and one greatgrandchﬂd also survive. '

His funeral took place on Mon- day morning October 27th from his late residence to Stella Maris Church. Requiem Mass was sung by the Pastor, Rev. Father Ay- I'es. His remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, there to wait a glorious ressurec; tion, when Christ shall say to his faithful servants :“Coune ye blessed of My Father, possess the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundatior of the world" The pallbearers were: Archi- baldHartlin, Joseph S. Gallant, Wilfred Doucette, Ferdinand Le- Clalr, Marshall Gallant, Ferdi- nand Doucette.’

May his soul. rest in peace.

WILBERT 0. DOCKENDORFF ,On the evening of September 22nd, 1958, the residents of North River and surrounding districts were saddened to hear that Mr.

Wilbert O. Dockendonff, had passed to his and home. He was in his ‘83 year and had

been in poor health for the past three years, having suffered several strokes, from which he always recovered, up until the time of his death.

He was an honest and upright man, kind to the sick'and always a friend in time of trouble. He

alike, especially his grandchild- ren, who deeply moum his loss.

There are left to mourn be. sides his sorrowing widow, the following sons and daughters: ,John, in Regina, Sachem”: Garfield with the R.C.A.F., Ed- gar, Ontario: Wendell, on the homestead; (Grace). Mrs. (Dr.) Schneider, New York: (Mildred) Mrs. T. Keenan. Moose Jaw, Sa'skatchewan; (Florence) Mrs. H. Sanderson. West Royalty; (Doris) Mrs. J. Sloclnman, Win- sloe; and (Leone), Mus. A. Car- penter, Ballieboro, Ontario. Also two brothers and two sisters sur- vive him.

Funeral services were held at

the Cuteliffe Funeral Home. The Rev. H. L. Mitton of the Baptist Church, Charlottetown, conduct- ed a very impressive funeral service. Hymns sung were: “Asleep In Jesus”. and “Abide With Me”. A solo, “The Garden Of Prayer”, was beautiftu ren- dered by Mrs. Terry Vallis, Charlottetown. , Pall bearers were: Clarence Murchison, Andrew Marci-inch. ern, Aubrey MecPhail, Gordon MacEwen. John MacKinley, and Wilfred MacKinley.

Interment was in the Peoples Cemetery.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful, which bore testi- mony to the memory of a loved one laid to rest.
