Sherman Will Not Accept.

Gen. Sherman has telegraphed to ex- Senator Henderson saying he would not accept the Presidential nomination if cffer- ed or serve if elected. The general im- pression this morning is that the chances of the nomination of some man not hereto- fore prominently mentioned have been increased. The names most frequently mentioned are General and Johu Sherman and Gresham. In case of a break in the Blaine column it is understood Nebraska will go to John Sherman. Eastern dele- gates are determined to adhere to Senator Edmunds, and as they are divided in opinion it is likely their strength will be divided between Sherman, Graham and Hawley for some time. Gen. Henderson was elected permanent chairman of the

The London Aquarium Burned.

Lonvon, June 4.

The East London Aquarium, at Bishops- Gate was burned this morning. Of the col- lection of wild animals, some were safely removed from the burning structure; others it was necessary to shoot, and some vere burned. Among the latter were lions,bears, jackals and monkeys. The two Russian bears, however, were rescued. The roaring of the burning beasts was something ter- rible. The collection of curiosities of Marwood, the notoricus hangman, was con- sumed.

Baby Farming and Baby Murder- ing.

PHILADELPHIA,’ June 4.

Twenty one bodies of infants were to-day exhumed near the Baby Farming Insti-

tution, under the supervision of Miss Nivison, at Hammonton, N. J. The grestest eXcitement prevails as

it is now clear that the children have been fearfully neglected. The case is now in the hands of prosecutor Thompson, of At- lantic County.

On the 2nd inst., at the residence of her brother-in-law, Rev. Robert Duncan, of St. Stephen, N. B., after a painful illness, Isabella Grant Higgs, daughter of the late Richard Higys, Esq., M. C. P., Bermuda.

At Frederictan, Lot 67, May 16th, after a short illness of six days, which she bore with Christian resignation, Janet, the beloved wife of Thomas Robertson, Esq., in the seventy- third year of her age. She was a woman who, through life, enjoyed the respect and esteem of all her acquaintances; and ber unexpected death has caused many to feel the pangs of sorrow.

It is announced that Mr. Trevelyan, Chief Secretary for Ireland, has introduced into the House of Commons, a bill to sim- plify those provisiona of the Land Act by which tenants are enabled to purchase their holdings. The State will furnish the whole of the purchase money, where the price is considered fair and the security offered is good, repayment to be made in 33 annual instalments, with 3} per cent. interest. The amount that may be advanced by the State in any one year is limited to 25 mil- lion dollars, and the entire sum to be de- voted to the purchase purpose must not exceed one hundred million dollars,

Mercury says:—The reporis which come from different parts of the country stating that the plum trees have been destreyed by the severe frost of last winter are applicable to this neighborhood, Nurserymen and gardeners here state that there is scarcely a plumb tree in their orchards which has not been killed. Be- tween this and the ravages of black-knot there will he no crop worth speaking of this year, and the lady folks will have to depend on somes other fruit for their preserves.
