CHICKEN FATTENING STATIONS

Two chicken fattening stations will be establisbec ia this Province, under gov- eroment auspices,—one at Summerside and one in Charlottetown. The idea is, not to encourage our farmers to engage in chick- ea fattening, tutto provide a means by which they can sell chickens at a profit to meno who make chicken fattening for the British and other markets a specialty. Good large chickens of the Plymouth Rock, Wyandotte and Light Brahma varie-~ ties are the more desirable, It is expect~ ed that each station in this Province will fatten four hundred chickens this fall,-- two hundred immediately aud two hun- dred later. Thechickens will be obtained from farmers and others in the vicinity of Caarlottetown and Summerside ; and the experiment will be continued for three years. If successful, the trade will, of course, afin England and France, and other countries,be carried on by private eoterpriee. We have little doubt that a considerable amount of clear money will» ere long, be flowing into this province as a resultof chicken and turkey culture,— particularly if direct steamship com- munication should be established with Great Britain. At the close ofthe address Dr. Taylor asked some questions pertinent to the otfer of financial assistance,, and having receiv- ed satisfactory answers declared himself to be unreservedly and enthusiastically in favor of accepting it. He had long been in favor of manual training the value of which he illustrated by referenze to the lives of the great surgeons Sir William Ferguson and Dr. Lawson Tait,—both of whom had in early life specially traised their eyes and hands for the work in which they have gained a distinction beyond that of all others of their age.

Dr. Anderson was very much in favor of the proposition and saw no reason why the peuple of Charlottetown should not grasp at athing of such very great im- portance, especially when the expense was tothem nothing. Inclosing, Dr. Ander~ son, was happy in moviug a very hearty vote of thanks to the speaker for his ex- cellent address and the good news he had brought.

The motion was seconded by Senator Ferguson, who referred to the great ser- vices Protessor Robertson had rendered this Provioce together witb all Canada, and said that he bad zreat faith in the euccess of any enterprise promoted by him.

F. L. Haszard, Esq., supported the mo- tion and criticised some methods now followed in our public schools,—notably the montbly writien examinations,

After the motion was put and cerried, Dr. Taylor moved thata committee be ap- pointed to take any necessary action,—eaid committee to consist of Dr. Anderson, Principal Seaman, Principal Landrigan, and Messrs Blanchard and D. C. McLeod, of the city Schoo! Board.

Mr. Cotton seconded the motion and sug- gested the addition to the committee of the names of Dr. Taylor aud the Superintend- ent of Education,

The motion carried and the meeting ad- joureed.
