THE TEACHERS’ GRIEVANCE,
We overlooked the paragraph in which the editor of the Patiot absurdly states— so hardly is he pressed—that we want to have some of the teachers of Prince Street Schoo! paid for fourteen months’ service inp the year instead of twelve. We want see even-handed justice done —nothing less, nothing more—in a matter in which the public honor is concerned. The Patriots plea that special favor should be shown the common s¢hool teachers of the old veyime, because they had never been disengaged is, as we before pomted out. worthless. In fact, several of these teach. ers were not engaged for weeks after those of the Protestant Academy and tho;e from nt. Jobn wereengaged. The Pulriot knows this fight well.
As for the Pa/riv:’s irrevalent statement that the teachers in the Protestant Acad. emy received their salartes up to the first of September last, we are assured that it is incorrect. We are also assured the pro- testing teachers demand only the propor: tion of salary they were led to expect would boa paid them on the fi-st of October, on they—or at least some of them—would never have come to Prince Edward Island If such be the case, there has clearly been s breach of faith. which we hope the Execut- ive Council, when it meets, will repair.
