CAMPBELL ELECTION TRIAL.

The trial of the election petition against the return of Hon. William Campbe!!,M. L. A., for the first District of Queen's County, came on before Mr. Justice Fiiz- gerald this morning. Mr. Arthur Peters, Q.C.and Mr. John A.McDonald appeared for the petitioners, and Mr.W.S. Stewart, Q. ©. for Mr Campbell. ed the case bystating that with regard tothe personal charges sgaipst the respondent ihe petitioner found that he was upable to substantiate them, and therefore he would ask the court to dismiss them at once. That with reference to the corrupt prac tices alleged to have been committed by alleged agents of the respondent, while the petitioner had evidenee of corrapt practices he found that be was uvabie to prove that

the parties who committed § them were agents for whose acts Mr. Campbell could be held responsible.

Three of the all ged agents were absent, or could not be servea with subpcoas, and a fourth, the most material ome, was

so ill that he could not be served. The learned Counsel therefore found himself without any evidence to offr the court in support of the petition, Mr. Stewart (.C. for the respondent moved that the petition be dimissed with eosts against the petitioner. The
