In Pursuit of a Good Time TPOH Rock the Barn

It can usually be said for Barn events that the youncer the crowd, the more they enjoy the music. crowd, who had started the evening by gaping dumbly at the band, got into the spirit of things. The only possible fault in the evening was the long black-out be- tween songs, which dragged down the atmosphere. (That and the noxious sub- stances being smoked on the dance floor.)

Security had to throw out a few rowdy audience members, but in general the evening seemed trouble free, with a minimum of moshing -- although one enthusiastic blonde tried unsuccessfully to get the crowd into a smashing frenzy.

This week’s edition would be more appropriate with the name Sound Chunks with 12 CDs on the menu so pull up a seat and get ready for « wild and woolly ride through the music industry.

Rap and hip hop occupy most of this week’s article and first up is anew release from Tha Doggy Pound entitled Dogg Food. Snoop. Nate Dogg, Rage and many more grace this CD with production provided by Dr. Dre. This latest release from Death Row Records isn’t the greatest but even on their worst day Tha Dogg Pound & Co. are still the best gangsta rappers out there. >

duced on this one but with their unique style nothing needs to be. Fans of Cypress Hill won’t be disappointed, so get this one while you still can.

Disappointed is the only way I can describe No Man’s Land. This is the second CD put out by Souls of Mischief and they have shown themselves to be one hit wonders. That hit was of course ‘93 ‘Till Infinity’? which appeared on their first release and they haven’t come close to producing another of the same quality on this one.

Don’t fret though, AZ is the new face on the block and his CD Doe or Die offers some hope. A poor man’s Warren G, AZ offers some good lyrics over some hype tracks producing a sound that isn’t new but definitely welcome.

For fans who don’t welcome hip hop in any shape or form the alternative Echobelly may be for you. A cross between Weezer and the Cranberries, their CD, On, is worth picking up. Some of the songs sound similiar to each other, but they’re good enough that it doesn’t matter.

Bracket also offers a sound similiar to a more popular group, this time Green Day. 4-Wheel Vibe may sound like Green Day but it’s certainly not as, good making me wish I hadn’t even bothered to listen to this one.

Bear with me folks, we’re nearing the end and it’s all good from here on out. The Best of UB40, vol.2 is the latest release from the group and contains two new tracks and a lot of classic hits. With their soft reggae sound UB40 may be around long enough to produce a vol.3.

Another artist who has been around for a while is Marvin Gaye and Inner City Blues is a tribute to the man and his music. Greats such as Boyz II Men, Madonna, Stevie Wonder and many others contribute their musical talents for remakes of classic Marvin Gaye tunes. This one should be on the Christmas list of any R&B fan.

While you’ve got your list out mark down Debra Cox. The Toronto born singer’s self-titled CD has a sound like Brandy to compliment a voice comparable to Mariah Carey. Dance tracks or ballads her songs will move everyone.

Last but certainly not least is the soundtrack to /.¢ Confessional, but don’t worry, the music is not in French. Depeche Mode, Tricky, Portishead and others produce a mix of new age, blues and ballads to produce some cuts everyone can enjoy. On that note I’m signing out and I hope you found something to suit your tastes.
