Russia has tormally announced that it has decided to abandon its reeent intention of evac uating Central Asia, and bas proclaimed a determination to extend its Asiatic frontiers. This announcement contains for Eagland a stinging threat, coup!- ed with the declaration that Russia be lieves it will be better for England to confine her energies in the east in the future within the natural boundaries of India. The Czar’s friends go to great pains to assert that Russia has no de- sign on India, but it is impossible for Englishmen to believe that Russian statesmen are not engaged in constant intrigues in that directioo. The Kng- lish people, however, seem to be apath- etic concerning any designs Russia may have, and the present English Govern ment seems too absorbed in the troubles in the Egyptian question to properly mect the new issue. ~-_-- CCU Aimed at the Brakeman.

Household Hints.

Cream Cakes—Boil, in half-pint water, three-quarters cop butter; stir in, while boiling, one and three-quarter cups flour, Take from the fire, and stir in, gradually, five eggs, not beating them, and half teaspoonful! soda, dry. Drop on pans half the size you want them baked. Bake fifteen or twenty minutes.

Filling for the above—Boil one pint milk. Beat together three or four eggs; one cup of sugar, quarter cup flour, aud stir this into the boiling milk Flavor with lemon or vanilla.

Potato rolls for breakfast are made in this way:—Boil six good potatoes with their jackets on, take them out with a skimmer, drain them, and squeeze them with a towel to insure their being meal and dry, then remove the skin, mas them until free from lumps, add a tablespoonful of butter, the yolks of three eggs, a pint of sweet milk, and a a of yeast should be beaten in with them when they are cool enough so that the yeast will not be in danger of being scalded. Beat in enough flour to make a stff dough; when this rises make it in the shape of small cakes, let them rise the same as biscuit, bake a delicate brown. These are nice for breaksfust or supper
