Lonvox, Feby 6.—A telegram to the Post says the engagementa have proved a veritable slaughter for the Filipinos, their killed being reported at thousands.

The American forces could scarcely have been better disposed.

It is now known that the attack was fally expected and that every preparation had been made to meet the contingency.

The firing slackened at noon on Sunday the enemy being apparently demoralized.

The American troops, however, are fully «quipped to meet anothar attack.

Delagoa Bay Dispute.

Lonpor, Feb.4 —The Berne correspon~ dent of the Pell Mall Gazette telegraphs that the decision of the arbitrators in the Delago Bay dispute may be expected no later than June. It is added that the United States threatens in the event of further delay,to make grave represents- tions tothe Federal] Council, which ap- pointed the arbitrators, and that Great Britain w'll join in these representatious, The interest ofthe United States in the Delago Bay Railroad arbitration is due to the fact thatthe interests of the late Col, McMurdo are involved in it.

Mania, Feb. (.--The long expected rapture between the Americans and the Filipinos has come at last.

The clash came at 8.45 on Saturday evening when three daring Filipicos d ried past the Nebraska regiments pickets at Santa Mesa, but returned when challenged.

They epeated the experiment without drawing the sentrie’s fire,tut the third time they returned Corpora) Greeiey challenged the Filipinos and then fired kiliiog one of thern aod wounding another.

Almost immediately afterwards, the Filipinos line from Calverran to Santa Mesa commenced a fusilade against the

Americans which was ineff.ctive. The Nebraska, Moniana and Dakota outposis replied vigorously held their ground until reinforcements The Filipinos in the meantime

arrived, concentrated at three points, Gazalangin, Calyocan and Santa Mesa.

At about 10 o’clock, the Filipinos opened & hot fire from a!l three places similtanes ously. }

This was supylemeuted by the fire of two siege guns at Balik + Balik, and by advanciag- skirmishers at Paco and Pandocan.

The Americans responded with a terri- fic fire; but, owing to the darkness, they were unable to determine its effect. The engagement lasted over an hour.

The cruiser Charleston and the gunboat Concord, siationed cff Malabon opened fire from their second battilion on the Filipinos position at Calvaran and kept it up vigoro- usly

At 2.45 there wes another fusilade along the entire line,aud the monitor Monadnoch opened fire on the eaemy from off Malata.

With daylight the Americans advanced. The Californian and Washingtoo regiments made a splendid cherge and drove the Filipinos from the village of Paco aod Sinta Moss. The Nebraska re~ giment also distinguished its lf, capturing several prisoners aud one howister, and very strong pvition at the resevoir which i* connected with the water work3.
