The date of Eoster Sunday varies through the ycflli. but the foct of the Riscn Christ on the first" Easter Sunday remains the focal point of the Christian Faith. Given the Resurrection event all human life and experience become clear. Our present life amid the shadows of time is but a preface to more glorious and thrilling chapters in the reulms beyond. Such is the marvellous message of Easter thot it flings its springtime glow over the aspirations of humanity. lt is the most joyous festival of the yeor, when all around new llfe quickens ond stirs on every side. The tyranny of wint-ar is cier, ond Nature herself, having been planted in the likeness of death, awoke: in the likeness of resurrection.

This Eoster Sunday, os on all Easter Sun- dcys, the churches will be filled with people eager to hcor again the stcry of the Risen Lord. Nowhere is the festival more fittingly observed than throughout this Christian Province and Do- minion. There is every reuson for this outpour- ing of faith and joyousness on our port, and for joining in spirit with the many millions who will be singing once more thot glad refrain thot hos echoed through the centuries: "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Hallelujah."

The Rockefeller Foundation

The onnuul report of the Rockefeller Foun- dotion—-to which we owe our public library sys- tem in this Province-gives striking evidence of the scope and vision of well-directed private philanthropy. The Foundation wos set up in 1913, and since thot time sums amounting to $105,000,000 have been drown from capitol und spent, $288,000,000 hos been appropriated from income. Lost year expenditures reached $19,- 703,000, of which about $10,000,000 come from capitol, ond the end of 1946 sow the principal fund standing at $138,000,000.

The largest single grant of the year wos $7,500,000 to the General Education Boord, which too wos founded by John D. Rockefeller and currently is concerned mainly with educa- tion in the southern states. But of the totcil of 1946 appropriations 56 per cent wcis for work in the United States, 44 per cent for work in other countries. This work is mainly in the fields of education, public heolth, medical sci- ences, nuturul sciences, social sciences and the humanities-the items include $500,000 for re- storing und rehabilitating colleges und univers- ities in Chino, $250,000 for experimental ogri- culture In Mexico, $150,000 for chemistry re- search in Switzerland, $162,000 for social re- search of Oxford.

Smaller grunts include $50,000 to McGill University for research in brain chemistry, $30,- 000 to McGill for research in endocrinology, $42,500 to the Ccinodion Institute of Interna- tionol Affairs towards its general budget, $20,- 000 to the Conudion Social Science Research Council of Ottawa towards expenses of its pro- gram for o two-year period.

In his lifetime John D. Rockefeller wos the subject of much criticism und abuse for the methods by which he accumulated a gigantic fortune. For the use he and his heirs have mode of that wealth there con be nothing but the warmest commendation-the Rockefeller money is working everywhere for the good of mon- kind.
