The insurrection at Burmah is making little headway. .

The great Council of Ulemas has decided that Colonel Commeroff’s assassin shall not he executed, and that the European intervention with the administration of Turkey will not be accepted.

The military preparations against the Rumpa rebellion are progressing, says a Calcutta despatch, and there is ever possi- bility of -anether tedious campaign in that fever-stricken district.

The Indian Government have never en- tertained any notion of annexation, re-pur- chase, or any other measure affecting the ‘political status of Cashmere.

Bismarck, irritated at the prospect of the defeat of the Church Bill, is reported to be preparing further correspondence throwing light upon the past negotiations with the euria for publication.

William and Richard Hefforon, of New York, Sunday night accidentally fell over the bank near the suspension bridge, Niagara Falls, on the Canadian side. Wil- liam was killed, and Richard badly injured.

Onrevary.—With feelings of sorrow we have to record the death ef Tbomas Cerley, who departed this life on the 23rd ult., aged 79 years.. Mr. Corley was born in Killamur- ray, ‘‘ounty Monaghan, ireland, and emi- grated to this Island in the ship ‘‘Agitator,” May, 1830. He had been in failing health for ever three years, during which time he bore his sickness with Christian resignation. Being fully aware that his mortal career was draw- ing to a-close, he made due preparation, and was frequently attended by the consoling visits of the pastor of his Church, Rev, Allan J. MeDonald, whe administered to him the last Sacraments. ‘The deceased is universally regretted by his numerous friends and neigh- bers, being always regarded as an honest, upright, good, oblighing neighbor. On Thurs- day morning, 25th ult., his remains were taken from his late residence, Fort Augustus, te the Parish Church, where a solemn Mass of Reguium was offered for his soul. After the funeral services were performed, his remains were followed to the Cemetery by a respect- able concourse of mourners, and respectfully interred. May his soul restin peace. Amen. —Com.
