The Elmira (N. ¥.) Advertiser gives a Strange account of a litle giri afflicted with diptheria. in looking ioto the childs throat, the mother saw a micro- cocus moving, which she removed, to yether with another, whieh are pow oo exhibition at a city drug store, and belong discussed by the medical frateraity. ‘They are easily seen by the naked eye, though a glass helps one to see the “true inwardoess’’ of the critter. The largest one is fully oae quarter of an inch long, covered with hair, with a head something like a caterpillar, tapering body and long hair tail. Its body is formed in rings its color is about that of one of those yellow “thousand legged’ worms found under old boards and stones. The small- er one is about ove sixteenth of an inch long, being whitish in color, and requir- ing the glass to bring out its “beauty” of conformation, It is not a pleasant thought to imagioe such a thing in your throat, but they get there, and from there into the blood, heart and other organs, producing paralysi , and exist ip arge colonies in diphtheretric membrane. Dr. J. M. Flood is considerably interested in the mammoth: bacteria that have come under his observation, which greatly ex- ceed in size anything he ever saw.

A very favorite trick adopted at Lime, Valnable Freehold Property

Peru, in carnival time, for frighteniog people ae they pass along the streets, is the following: A sack filled with frag- ments of broken glass and porcelaia, is fastened to the gallery by a strong rope, of such length that, when suspended from the window the sack 1s about seven feet

above the street. The apparatus being ready, a mischevous maid and her amita (young mistress) watch the passers-by until they select one for their victim. The sack is then thrown over the front of the balcony, and a deafening crash en- sues, though the rope prevents its con- tents from hurting any one. It is well known that in almost every street in Lima there is at least one balcony ready

prepared for the performace of this trick ; |

yet the suddenness of the crash always proves a shock, even to the strongest nerves. People start and run to the ovher side of the street, and are sometimes so terrified that they drop down, then loud laughter aod jeerivg remarks are heard in the balcony. Dear Str—It is now two years since your “‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced to me. Ihave waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be “‘too good to . true.”

I was afilicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par ticulars.
