Wer hear that a secret resolution was passed at a meeting in Georgetown to the effect that, rather than see the ‘‘ Northern Light’ running on any other route than that between Georgetown and Picton, the gentleman present would engage to haul her up on to the public square, and guard her there as an object to break the monotony of the scenery, and be as a guide to travel- lers wandering over that dreary prairie after night fall.

THis morning the regular train from Souris ran off the track near St. Andrew’s. te happened to be the carriage next to the Engine, which was heavily loaded with logs, that left the way. The damage done to the track, for about 150 yards, is con- siderable. ‘The passengers were conveyed on the locomotive to Mount Stewart in time to catch the train from Georgetown to the caty.

Ansour.a week ago an aged woman by the name of Mrs. Blackwood left her home an Stellarton to visit her children, who were warried in Asphalt. Not putting in an appearance there, diligent search was yaade for ‘her during the week, but no trace of her could be found until yesterday {Monday) morning, when her lifeless body was found in the woods near Asphalt. Dr. Jenstone, coroner, held an inquest over the body yesterday, but we have not heard what the verdict was.—Pictou Standard.

AN ENTERTAINMENT, under the patronage of His Lordship the Bishop of Charlotte- town, will be given by the members of the St. Patrick’s T. A. Society in the Market Hall, on Monday evening next. The per- sons to whom the management of this enter tainment is entrusted have spared ye pains to sectife the servicesof those who will serve t make it the best of the season. There are on the programme the names of Messrs. Caven, Hermans, Vinnicombe, Fletcher and Mrs. Pennee, and Missea Rankin and Doyle, nearly all first class vocalists and instrcumen- talists.

Turnre was a very large market to-day. The upper end lower departments were crowded with a plentiful display of meat and other articles. The prices are as fol- jows :—Butter (fresh) from 21 to 25 cents ; hutter (tub) from 22 to 22 cents ; egys (per dozen) from 14 to 16 cents: turkeys, from 9 cents to $1.50 each ; fowls (each) from 20 to 35 eents, pork (carcass) from 4} to 54 cents ; beef (quarter) from 6 to 10 cents ; beef (amall) from 8 to 14 cents ; mutton {per lb.) from 6 to 12 cents; potatoes, from 25 to 30 cents per bushel ; hay (per 100 lbs!) 99 to $1.00; oats, from 40 to 42 eents per bushel.

Tur Oddfellows’ reunion at the “ Revere House,” last night, was in every respect most Enjoyable. At 10.30 the company sat down to @ sumptuous dinner, which reflect- «d the greatest credit upon the hostess, and fully sustained the reputation of the hotel. After this, the first part of the programme, was concluded, the usual standard and vol unteer toasts were proposed and responded to in a pleasant and appropriate manner, some of the speeches on the occasion being brimful of wit and good humor. At 3 o'clock this morning the toast “Our next inerry meeting,” brought the programme to « close, after which the brethren departed ia peace in harmony. To the Editor of the Examiner : ‘ Farewritt to Fourz.— A short week since, an advertisement promised to the people of Souris 4 first-class newspaper, early in March. Every preparation was made for its reception. Ladies had collect- ed manuscript poems and tit-bits, to have them printed for their scrap-books ; poets, looking through blue glass spectacles, had been paying more intense devotions to the moon and the breakwater ; rivals had been planning anonymous warfare ; petty politi- cians had been patching rejected articles ; and merchants had blocked out flaming ad- yertisements. But all is vanity. We learn from the Damy Examiner that Fultz is not coming. We must remain paperless and obscure. It was unkind of Mr. Fultz to feed our hopes, first with the promise of one paper—next with the promise of a second— and then to make them kill one another be- fore they were born. If he ventures to visit disappointed and indignant Souris within the present century, he may expect a warm reception.
