Mr. McKennn received a telegram from that city en- uouneing tlte death. by drowning. of his son. in Halifax Harbor. on the evening of the proviotts day. (\Vednosdey.) We may naturally suppose that the receipt of this tragic intelligence, must have appsl. ed the friends of the deceased, as it did the comma. nity generally-in which he was well and favourably known. Ilnder ordinary circumstances. the idea of death is sorrowful and repulsive enough. but in cases of this kind. the feelings of mourning relatives are ad- ditionally ehoclted by the suddenness of the calamity and the melancholy circumstances eurroundingit. \Ve sympathise with the bereaved in their heavy ef- fiiction. and We sincerely hope that e merciful Providence will. in tlte course of a short time. es~ suege their poignant and overpowering grief. The European conference. which is to meet in London next month. to settle the dispute between France and Prussia in regard to Luxetnburg. will he composed of representatives from Great Britain. France. Prussia. Austria. Russia. and the King of “ahead as the Grand Duke of Luxembttrg.—-It is understood that the following terms have been agreed upon at Paris for the deliberations of Con- ference :--First. France is not to enlarge her present boundaries; second. the fortifications of Luxem- burg are to be evacuated and dismantled; third. the future political status of the Grand Duchy is to be guaranteed by all the Governments participating in them .
