Nova Scorta’s Appte Crop.—It becomes more and more evident that the apple crop is a failure in some parts of Nova Scotia. Severa! farmers in the vicinity of Canning who are in the habit of selling from 120 to 200 barrels, will not have more than 10 to 15 this year, and some will have none at all.

ANoTHEeR Steamer. — We understand that Messrs. Pickford & Black have chartered a second steamer, the Bergenseren, to run between Halifax and Havaua, in connec- tion with the Beta. The Bergenseren will sail from Halifax on Oct. Ist, Oct. 22nd and Nov. 14th. This will be a great con- venience for intending shippers of potatoes, on which the through rate from Charlotte- town will be 95 cents per barrel. Any further information will be cheerfully fur-

Joseph Green, of the ill-fated schooner Richard Thompson, was picked up, about two miles from where the bodies of the two sailors were found, early this morning. The face was disfigured beyond recogni- tion, but the hands were not injured. A bill of lading with the captain’s name therein was amongst the asticlee foun! in the deceased’s pockets. The body will be taken to Summerside for interment.

Striking Switchmen. | Cuicago, Aug. 26. |

The switchmen on the Chicago and Alton Railroad struck this morning. A detach- | ment of police has been sent tothe yards | of the company. The Stock Yards Switch- ing Association, whose switchmen went out | on astrike, has decided to dissolve the | Association and allow that road to do its own switching. The striking switchmen were told their services were no longer re- | quired, and new men were procured to do the switching.

A despatch was recived at the office of the Lake Shore Railroad to-day from General Passenger Agent Daniels, of the New York Central, stating that the latter company had resumed the carrying of perishable freight and that all traflic is being moved as usual. Passenger trains are on time, and | no further trouble is anticipated.

Leprosy in Cape Breton.—A_ corres- pondent of the Halifax Herald writes : ‘* Through the medium of your paper, I desire to call the attention of the author- ities to several cases of leprosy near Eng- lishtown, Nic. Co. The disease has proved fatal to one person already, and as those now afflicted are constantly associating with the surrounding people, it is probable the number of cases will increase.” If this ter- rible disease really exists, as stated by the correspondent, steps should be taken at once to have the persons afflicted sent away where they would not likely communicate the disease to others. The attention of the authorities should be directed to this district at once
