Otis in the Pacific, and others, ray certainly militate tothe great disad-

vantage of the McKioley admivistration in

the coming election.

The eves of the world are on Admiral Dewey as he is slowly sailng homeward to receive the homage avd plaudits of his grateful countrymen. To-day he is, in Rome seeking an audience with Pope Leo. Thence he calls a: London, and then the Olympia sails directly for New York, bes ing due somewhere about the last of Sep- tember. Outof the many invitations which have been showered by cities, so- cietiee, and various bodies, he has seen fit to accept only two thus far, viz: that of New York city, aod one from the Alumni of his alma matet, the Norwich University Association of Boston, the latter of course is providing he visits Bostoo. So you see he has not xccepted the hospitality of the Hub thus far, but it ie felt he may yet do eo. If the hero should accept Bostou’s invitation he will be here probably the first week in October.

The Prince Edward Ieland Club bad a most enjoyable outing a week or 80 ago. They went by launch to Squanten, where they enjoyed an excellent shore dinner, After dinner there was music and dancing until a late hour. About fifty members attended. President Dr. Johnson and Secretary Doyle are to be congratulated on the success of the outieg.

He has nearly always taken home the money, never getting worse thana draw. Hehas been badly managed, and hasto give away weight continually. He says he has engagements enough now to last him for some time. He has sparred Sharkey several times, and made a good showing. Byers is very modest fellow and quite popular.

It is expected that the elevated road will be in operation about one year from now, Boston will be the Mecca for the A. O. ff., in June, 1900. Delegates will come from all parts of the Union, Canada and even Australia. St. John, N. B., will send representatives.
