CFS rep. sought

The Student Union is looking for nominations for the position of Canadian Federation of Students National Com- mittee representative for P.E.l.

The rep should expect a heavy load of duties, with two national conferences and two executive meetings (all outside the province) in the next year.

Also, the SU wants to orient the new rep in the ways of CFS before the first conference, to be held in November.

CFS’s constitution technically calls for a provincial election for such a position, but as UPEI is the only full member in the province,‘and as President Michelle Dorsey calls dealing with prospective member Holland College “like trying to beat them with a stick to get them to do anything,” Council has called for nominations from the general student body, and will ratify a decision at its next meeting on September 23. ~

Committee positions

Also required in the Student Union are nominations for three non-Council students to sit on the Hiring and Selection Board for the coming year.

The Board hires bartenders, Campus police, receptionists, editors, radio station personnel, photographers, and makes choices for committee chairs at Fall Fest and Winter Carnival.

Students are encouraged to leaye their names with Coun- cillors or at the Student Union office in the Barn.

More positions...four students to 'sit on the Student Disciplinary Committee, which makes recommendations after hearing cases referred to it by Student Services when students have broken campus regulations. -

This too requires that you show interest by September 23.

Fall elections coming

The Student Union Council has opened nominations for» seven (7) positions on Council. .

The positions are: ‘One Arts respresentative ‘ One Science representative ‘ One Education representative . . s

. ‘ Two student Senators

‘ One Board of Governors representative ‘ Ombudsman ‘

Nominations close on September 24, and elections will take place on October 2 and 3.

President Michelle Dorsey proposed the extended elections because of poor turnouts for past fall polls. She hopes that students who are not on Campus, or in 'the Robertson Library polling station, every day of the week will take advantage of the Tuesday/ Wednesday split. '

Cards for discounts—2

Now available at the Student Union office in the Barn, Canadian Federation of Students-Studentsaver membership cards. These cards, for which all full-time students have paid in their student fees, bring a discount at several Island, businesses, and can be picked up during business hours.

International Student Identity Cards (ISIC) are available at no cost to students bringing in a black and white passport type photo.

Taking care of Business

The U.P.E.I. Business Society is presently conducting its annual membership drive.

A five dollar Business Society membership card, which can

be purchased at Room 304 in the Kelly Building, enables cardholders to attend Business Society events at a discount rate. , In addition, when participation in particular events is limited, Business Spcietyflmembers are given priority over non-members. ’GenEraIly; the Business Society'maintains' a goal of providing students with enjoyable social 1 and educational activities-‘5 > .

In the coming y'ear,"the Business Society will be sponsoring several pubs, a golf tournament, a curling tournament, and a broomball tournament.

As well, we will be bringing various business leaders to the campus to discuss a variety of business topics.

Perhaps our bigges1 ’3‘»"“’ of the year is the annual Businessman’s Dinner. The dinner, which features a high' ranking corporate executn: ..:. guest speaker, brings together U.P.E.I. students and local businessmen. .

There is, indeed, something for everyone; and we encourage

The Student Union is looking for.a recording secretary for the UPEISU Council meetings. Must take notes of bi-weekly meetings and type them into the official minutes. Contact SU office, 9-5 weekdays.

“Tempest” auditions open

Auditions for “The Tempest” this semester’s major production of the UPEI Theatre Society will Be held September 21 to 23 in the Theatre Society Room, basement 0 Main Building. , *

Auditions will be on an individual basis. All interested are asked to choose a time posted on the Theatre Room door as soon as possible. Bring along any two minute speech of Shakespeare. Knowledge of “The Tempest” is not required.
