Reeently a column of Spanish troops met ten peaceable Cubans near the town of Minas de Firmeza and strung them up by the wrists to trees by the wayside Uhe troops then fired volley after volley into their bodies. The corpses remained «winging for two days before anyone dared tocutthem down. A similar massacre is alleged to have been perpetrated on May 26th, near Arroyo, Gueria. Five negroes were met by a company cf Span- ish troops and shot to death, The corpsee were left unburied on th: road. Near the ame place on the night of May 27, Span- ish soldiers went to the house oceupied by Josefa Lopez and Felica Ri geria, wives of insurgents, and forced the women and their daughters to dance uutil they were exhausted, piercing them w th bayonets to hasten them. In the morning the scldiers tired the house and left, but tie women and girls were dragged out by neighbors before the flames reached them. The elder women have since died f-om the cifects of the injuries they received.

A number of loafers arranged an unique plan. Certain of them were to break lamps and the others were to inform on them. Firket, Ezypt, June 8.—This point was taken by Egyptian troop: at an early hour yesterday morning, and their manner of acquitting themeelves in this the first en- gagement of the Nile campaign has given great satisfaction to the British officers in command of them. The Egyptian forces left Akasheh, the Egyptian outpost, on the evening of June 6. The greatest secrecy had been maintained as to al! the arrange- ments, and the ar ival of the Eyyptians at the Dervish camp took the enemy com- pletely by surprise. ;
Thev quickly rallied, however, and rushed to their arms. Far from being routed in the first surprise of the attack, they stood to their posts and made a stub- born defence of the camp for an hour and a half, during which there was bard fight- ing.
The Dervishes were finally put to ro t by a flank movement executed by the cavalry. Seeing themselves in danger of being surrounded, the forces of the Khalifa took flight to the sonthward, toward Suarda, pursued by the cavalry. Suarda is nearly a hundred miles south of here, but it is strongly held by a force of several thousand Dervishes.
Reports so far r. ceived indicate that the loss tothe Dervishes will amount to a thousand men. Amorg thove killed s Emir Hammada, who was their comman ! er, besides many important chiefs The Egyptian loss in the fight was twenty killed and ninety wounded. Hundreds of Derviskes were taken prisoners.
