Zion Cuurcn Kyrertainment.—The entertainment given by the Junior En- deavourers in Zion church echoolroom last evening was a decided success. Every seat in the room was filled. The pro- gramme was one of the best given for some time time. The pastor Rev. D. B. McLeod presided. Every item on the programme was good and those having the affair in charge deserve credit for their

good taste in the selections. Mr. E Hil.’s solo, recitation by Maggie Gillis, another by Harry Smith (the little son of

our esteemed Water Commissioner) an exercise by nine little girls and the Flag Drill (England and American) were ex-

ecarcely fair to par- ticulariz: as all were so well rendered. The “Hoe Maid” candy furnished during intermission was even better than usual,

Debate on the Draft Address

BILL REGARDING THE SALE OF TOBACCO &c., INTRODUCED.

Mr. Reid presented the draft address in reply to the speech from the Throne, which was made the order of the day for to-morrow. It reads as follows :—

To His Honor the Honorable George William Howlan, Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Prince Eiward Island,

We the representatives of the pecple of the people of Prince Edward Island thank Qour Hoaor for the speech with which you

Wiile we regret the departure of their Excellencies Lord and Lady Aberdeen, we observe with pleasure that Her Majesty was pleased to appoint the Earl of Minto Governor General of Cavada, and we feel assured that his administration of public affairs will prove satisfactory to the inter- ests of our country.

We agree with Your Honor that our people roanifest an increased interest in agriculture, horticulture avd dairying, and the addresses of Professors Robertso1 and Macour in this Province through

through tbe courtesy of the Honor~ able the Minister of Agriculture, con- tribute! in no small degree to the

interest taken in these subject-matters. Any legislation baving in view the ad- vancement of our farmers, ftruit-growers and dairymen shall receive our careful attention.

A more thorough acquaintance with the British marke’ has beep acquired through the visit of a commissioner from this Province who studied the markets of Great Britain personally, and we bave no dvuub’ that the result will be of benefit to our farmers.

With great pleasure we note that a Bill! providing for the participation of this Prevince in the construction of a bridge for railway and general traffic purposes across the Hillsborough River will be laid before us, and we hope that this bridge with its advantages will soon be a reality.

We shall carefully consider any legisla- tion relating to the foreshores~ bays and rivers of Prince Edward I+land, and trust that the measures for placing this Pro- vince On a more substantial fiuancial ba-is will have the desired resulta.

The measures for amending the Road Act, and the construction of Permanent Pullic Works will receive our considera tion.

We thavk Your Honor for ihe assurance that the public Accounts and the Depart mental Reporte as well as the Estimates for the curreot yeer will be submitted to ue.

We concur with Your Honor that the peace and prosperity of our people demand our grateful acknowledgement to a kind Providence.

We assure Your Honor that the subjects to which you bave invited our attention as wellas any other measures submitted to us, will be carefully considered, and we trust that our deliberations may be direct- ei by wisdom and aided by Divine Pro~ yvicoence.

The motion wae seconded by Mr. D. A. McKinnon, who also spoke at

History d Autiquarian Society, held last evening, Mr. Bulman read a echclaily and excellent paper upon “Some Effecta of Radiation upon Organic Life.” Itis not possible for us to go deeply into the rubject dealt with by the learned lecturer. We must be contented with saying that the treatment showed Mr. Bulman to bea thoughtful student of natural scienc e, well read in some branches not comm only mastered by theaverage student. The paper was most interesting and opened up attractive cbaonels of thought. The Presi dent of the Society (Mr. Newson) Mr. Doull and others took part inthe discussion which followed the reading of tne paper, and a vote of thanks was tendered Mr. Bulman. It was announced that Charles Palmer.
