Maritime Engineers are able to experience a freedom of dioice envious of any regim. Within Atlantic Canada are no less than 4 different engineering education programs:

1. The Tech associated '

universities to whidi UPEI belongs represent the bulk of Maritime universities. Under this system students attend A 3 years tonard a diploma in Engineering. For the 4th and 5th years of study and any graduate work the student moves on the N.S.T.C. for a Bachelor of a specific Engineering descipline (e.g. Civil, Mechanical, etc.) Beyond that a master degree can be obtained. 'lhe situation, no diploma universities issue 4th and 5th year credit nor do they specialize in any field.

INTRAMURAL

The stage was set, it was the notorious IVEan Machine against the _ battling Engineers for the UPEI softball title. Just two weeks earlier the Mean Machine had showed tremendous power in downing the game Engineers 17-5. This time the game would have a different and much happier ending,as a determined Engineering squad was ready to do battle.

It was all a hitters game as the score was 13—12 for the Engineers after two innings. Because of the time, the game would only go to four innings. In the top of the third the Mean Machine scored 5 runs to go ahead 17-13. This did not discourage the Engineers though as they rallied to tie it in the

Also N.S.T.C. has only 4th, 5th and graduate students with associated laboratories. Although N.S.T.C. is recommended for finishing school, the student may transfer to any engineering school

in Canada with full credit.

4th and 5th year for a Bachelor of a discipline in“ Engineering. At U.N.B. specialization begins after the 1st year and laboratories are available to all students. Graduate studies are also available at U.N.B.

UPEI Engineering Society has received an invitation to the 1978—79 Canadian Engineering Society's Congress to be held Jan. 2, 3, 4, 5 at Noya Scotia

Technical College in Halifax.

The invitation, considered a significant honour in some circles, was rumored during our A‘.s.E.c. meeting in

, FredEricton with formal

announcement coming recently via Canada Post. With proper financial support, we hope to send the maximum 4 delegates as

well as a number of non— voting members. The invitation indicates some success in the Engineering Society objective of becoming more active with- in and without UPEI.
