A proclamation has been issued in Ire- land offering £1,000 reward for the appre- hension of the murderers of Lord Mount Morris.

The fleets are coneontrating at Negline. Russian sloop Zemeouge will leave en Fri- day and the ether ships will follow on Saturday and Sunday.

The Foreiym Office has received a tele- gram from Admiral Seymour, pronouncing the burning of Duleigno untrue.

The Times says the aspect of affairs in the East gives reasonable ground to hope that pacific execution of the treaty ef Ber lin will be found in the united action of the powers. Pressure upon Turkey will now cease to be merely lecal, but it will be the object of the united Cabinets through their representatives at Censtantinople te extort from the Porte concessions granted by the Treaty of Berlin. Meanwhile, it is a mat- ter of significance that the alliance of the powers so far from losing strength through the interpesition of obstacles imperfectly foreseen has prebably acquired new force from the trial.

Vienna, Oct. 1.

In the Hungarian Diet the subject of Austrian participation against Turkey was taken up. A question was pyt in reference to the naval demonstration, the Govern- went being asked whether it weuld use its influence that no force be employed, and whether if its efforts be unsuccessful, Hun- garian forces will be engaged. Although the question comes from the extreme side, it may be taken as a sign of current feeling, which has set in not only in Hungary, but to judge from some of the chief organs of public opinion, in Austria likewise.

It is semi-officially declared that the French Government while adhering to the action of the Powers in the East is perfect- ly resolved not to separate from the Euro- pean concert.

A great public meeting will be held in London soon, under the auspices of the Patriotic Association, to protest against the coercion of Turkey.

A very strong reaction is setting in this country against the merciless way in which Enropean action is being carried on in gthe Hast, ani against Austria participating further in coercive measures.

The Da‘ly News’ leading editorial says: ‘‘ The Cabinet Council yesterday had be- fore it the request of the Porte that no further action be taken by the Powers be- fore Sunday. -This interval of grace will probably be granted. There is not the slightest intention on the part of the British Government to swerve from their direct policy, but other Powers must be consulted regacling the course to be taken if the*’Porte’s decision Sunday shall prove unsatisfactery. Much depends on the at- titude of Austria which will control that of Germany Should these go with other ee oe would probably co-operate. ‘rance would at least not hamper their ac- tion and Russia would be unable to develop any adverse policy of its own. But even if the great Powers do not agreee we don't believe the British Government would hold themselves relieved from the necessity of further action.

Qansiderable axcitement prevaiis here over the supposed murder which came to light this afternoon by the finding in the river of the body of Joseph Dumas, of Noathiield, with wounds upon his head and other indications of foul play. Dumas left his home in Northfield last Monday to bring a man and wife named Stone to Montpelier, which he did, putting up his team at Union House. He was last seen on Mouday evening quite drunk. As he did not return home, some anxiety was felt by friends, and search here showed that he had not been seen since Monday. His team remained at the hotel. APPLES FOR THE ENcisH Marker.—The steamship Australia, which left Halifax Wed nesday, for Londen, took, as part of her cargo, 911 barrels and 25 boxes Nova Scotia apples. The Nova Scotian, which sailed for Liverpool, also took 1,432 barrels and 51 boxes, the tetal export being 2,343 barrels and 76 boxes. —S/, John Telegraph.

We learn that Messrs. C. E. Robertson & Co, received a first prize for the suit of clothes they sent to the Montreal Exhibition. The cloth was the manufacture of Mill Valley Cloth Mills, of which Mr. Wm. Gordon is agent in this city ; and the suit was cut and made by Mr. James McLeod, of the firm. It is gratifying to learn that cloth manufactured on the Island takes high rank in competition with the tweeds of Canada,

Drink at THE AcapEMY OF Music To- Niautr.—This celebrated Drama is founded on Cruikshank’s celebrated Pictures of ‘‘ The Bottle.”- It portrays the dewnward course from the ‘' just one glass” to the thoreugh inebriate and drunkard, whilst its incidents are startling and full of dramatic interest. The characters too although thoroughly English in their type, are strong indivi- dualisms and the dialogue is terse, in some instances rises to real tragedy. Of all tem- perance dramas, it is undoubtedly the best and gives so vivid a picture of the evils of drunkenness that no lover of the cup that cheers and does inebriate bret what would be benefitted by its moral lessons.—Cruik- shanks has done more work in the cause of temperauce than probably any other except Father Matthew—and this drama has been of equal aid in lessening this evil which acts of parliament have been hitherto in- adequate to moderate. Ar a regular meeting of the Hospital staff held om Saturday, the 2nd instant. at 11 o'clock a.m., a communication from Dr. Canning was read by the Chairman of the meeting in which the Doctor tendered his resignation as attending physician to the Hospital. The following is Dr. Canning’s letter.

Sir,—As I am abeut leaving this Island for Europe in a few days on account of ill health, add with the view ef residing there perman- ently, possibly; I with the greatest regret tender my resignation to you as physician and surgeon, to the Hospital, and thus bring to a premature close, one of my happiest connec- tions with a public institution.

I must offer you Mr. President and the mem- bers of the Medical staff, my sincere thanks for the uniform kindness always shown me by all during the year I have been a fellow worker.

That the Hospital may go on increasing in utility and popularity, from day to day in the future as in the past, will be my constant prayer. Wishing you farewell, Believe me dear Sir, your most obedient servant.
