The Charlottetown Knights of Columbus Juniors showed super- iority both at bat and afield yes- terday at the Summerslde High School diamond to win the first game of the junior finals for the Prince Edward Island champion- ship. defeating Summerslde's Sheen 8: Mclnnls Juniors by tho score of l0 to l5. Both starting pitchers made way for relief hurlers in the ninth inning, Sim- mnns with none out, and Burke with two away. Murphy, coming in from centrefield to relieve Burke with the bases loaded by reason of Burke's sudden lack of control made only one pitch. Simmons being caught and run down between third and home to end the game.

Charlie Ryan's smart southpaw. Burke. pitched winning ball until his temporary relapse into wild- ness in the final inning. He gave up only six hits and struck out twelve. and although he did give up eleven free passes to first he kept them pretty well scattered until the ninth frame. The visitors banged out twelve safe hits in all. eleven off Simmons and one off Stewart. Simmons gave up five walks but two of these were in- tentlonal, Ready being allowed 1,0 walk to first in the eighth and ninth innings with Knights on second and third. The strategy worked both times. Sandy D. had the lead at the seven elghts; halfway down the stretch he was still in front but Worthy lib-mine driven by "Ike" Moreside pacing a storm moved up foot by foot and st the wire was a heed to the good. Filbert and Judd had a battle of their own for third with the latter getting the nod.

Second Heat: It was Worthy Ermine again for her second straight win. Filbert stole the rail going away to lead the field by the halt and up to the three quarters pole but then Worthy Ermine started coming on; Driver More- side had her up on even terms st. the seven-eighls and then outpac- ed Filbert through the stretch to win by a length with Judd nipping Sandy D for third lace. The mile was in 2.06 3o a fl th of a second away from Worthy Ermlnels rec- 0rd.

Third Heat: The free for all was reduced to Filbert and Sandy D.. as both Worthy Ermine and Judd were drawn though lameness. Fil- bert. went away on top and was never headed; Sandy made his bid from the top of the stretch but couldn't quite make the grade fin- lshlng a length back.

First Dash: The upsets continued as Earl Semple took Jessica Direct frcm fsr back to head Billy Mc- Vey and Lock Hanover with a sen- sational burst of speed in the stretch. Lock Hanover and Prince Budlong raced all out. to the quart- er before Lock took over. they kept their positions to the backstrewh. Billy McVey making the first move paced to the front. at the lop of the stretch and opened up a two length lead; he looked like s sure thing but Jessica. pacing like lightning headed the two lead horses to win in 2.06 4-5. a new record.

Second Dash: The picture chang- ed again as Billy Mcvey. handled by Walter Craig made every post a winning one. They strung out in a line on the backstretch. At the half Lock Hanover startc-rl to move up to race on even terms with Billy past the three-quarters: M the seven eighth: Prince had moved up to challenging position but couldn't catch Billy in the stretch Lock was third. Jessie Direct 2nd fourth and Eleanor G. fifth.

Quick Lick and Single streak mov- ing up very fast. They were all bunched halfway down but Quick Lick had just too much brush for them with Tennessee Sue beating Single Streak for the second spot.

Second Dash: It was another blanket finish between four horses as Tennessee sue. Ohio l-lal. Quick Lick and Single Streak came like lightning from the seven-elghths pOIe after the leader Colleen Adam. They coralled her 50 yards from the wire and it was Quick Lick who had his nose in front with Single streak second on the outside. Ohio Hal third. Tennessee Sue fourth. Colleen Adam fifth and Miss Kmx sixth.
