ENSURE OF THE GOVERNMENT BY THE : COLONIAL MINISTER.

, seive by the Gazette of last evening that Mr. Menta ha really writer an editorial at last, for we think it would be impossible to find in the comtaunity any one else 80 stupid a8 to contradict himself several times in the space of a short article, All we can ga- ter from the editorial is--that Sir Donald Campbell has received a Despatch from Lord Grey, in which his lord- ship severely takeshim to task for during to issue War- ssats, when no cash has been provided by the Assembly to meet them, It will be well for Money changers to be on their guard agaihst those spurious bits of paper-- which have becn issued» we are informed, as well in ayment of public salaries; as for the support of jailsa— . as no money,ha8 been appropriated for them, they cannot ve received at the Treasury without the special sauction of the Legisiature—a sanction they are not rery sure of. ;

We sympatize with the Goverfiment in the pain they must feel from the noble Secretary's censure. But we beg of the old lady of the Gazette that she will not send hor last No. to Downing street, as it would be to the dishonor of the Coloay for people there to see it ingina- ated in cur official paper, that Lord Grey is gentle- wan nol of “a rightly constituted mind.”

SUPREME COURT.—QUEEN’S COUNTY.

On Saturday last at the adjourned Court, the prison- evs were brouczht up to receive sentence.

Anabella M‘Atee, for Larceny, being the, third con- viction for the like offence, 12 manths* imprisonment— the first s:x months to be accompanied with hard labor.

Kenneth M‘Kenzie, of Hope River, Lot 22, for

P.O, — a Larceny, two months’ imprisenment, in consideration of| motives of the Compact-ridden society in refusing to

Hector M‘Donald, of Argyle Shore, Lot 30, for Maliciously stabbing with intent to do grevious bodily harm, two years’ imprisonment with hard labor.

Thomas Walsh, for Horse stealing, beiny the second effence, eight months’ imprisonment with hard labor.

‘The sance prisoner, for obtaining Goods under false gsetecces, was sentenced to six months’ further im- prisonment, also with hard labor.

James M+Natten, for an assault upon Donald Fraser, four months’ imprisonment.

A motion having been made by the Counsel of Neal Beaton, convicted of Murder, to respite the Judgemerr, oa the ground that the verdict was contrary to the evidence on the trial. The Crown Officers requested ume to answer, and further proceedings were deferred satil October Term.

DIZD. On the Bth inst., at De Sable Bridge, after 8 days’ iliness, David Holm aged 68 years, a native of Ros- ahire, Scotiond; he emigrated here in 18433.
