This liability is justifiable, though an effort ought certainly to have been made to get it out of the sum which Canada owes this Province. Tak ing this into account, the public debt aod liabilities of the Province have been swell ed to upwards of a million of dollars by a party that obtained office upon a distinct pledge to make ends meet.

This party is now about to apply, in the persons of Attorney General McKinnon and its candidate in the Belfast district, for an expression of the electors’ confidence in its good faith and ability. What will the answer be?

CHEESE—AT THE WEST.

Prince Edward Island cheese factories have all done exceptionally well this year. The good pasturage and the unprecedent- ed prices have given the cheese business a decided boom But the increase over other years is especially noticeable in the newer factories at the western end of the Island.

ALBERTON.

The Alberton cheese factory, situated abouta mile from the town, Jast year had about 125 patrons. This year 140 pat- rons are supplying milk. Ten hundred and eighteen boxes of cheese were manu- factured last year. This year the make to the end ot September was twelve hun- dred and eighty boxes,—about forty thrze tons of cheese, and it is expected that when the season closes three hundred more cheese will have been made this year than last year. The cheese has all been sold, the price averaging for the year from 10 to 10} centsa pound. Last year the average price received was

TIGNISH ANP PALMER ROAD

The Tignish and Palmer Road cheese factory was opened last year. It began Operations with 71 patrons supplyiug milk trom 245 cows. This year 156 patrons are eupplying milk from 500 cowse,—more than double. From the opening up to August 21th the factory averaged 12 cheese aday. From that date to September 25th 10 cheese a day was averaged. Al! the cheese has beeh sold with the exception of the October make, at excellent prices. The monthly reports of Mr. F. T. Morrow, the cheese factory inspector, have been very satisfactory, and in every way credi- table to the cheese maker, Mr. Geo. J. Murpby, who is considered by the patrons to be a first-class man. The farmers in this part of the countryare going into dairying in earnest aud itis expected that next year will show another large increase.
