There is science in the hanging of a hammock both for comfort and grace. The hammock should be six and a quar- ter feet from the ground atthe head and three and three quarters above ground at the footend. The rope at the head which fastens it should be one foot, and at the foot should measure four feet. It may sound as though this made the hammock very high, but it is just right, as our women have foundout. Forcon- venience und effect, a hassock is used on which our fair one steps and swin herself in place from the foot end. ee this way there are no ‘‘tucked up” skirts, and one’s shoes are not more conspicuous than one’s head.
The hammock paraphernalia is now as important an addition to the summer girl’s outfit as tennis racquet or parasol, and it requires infinitely more careful thought.
The hammocks themselves are beauti- ful, being woven of strands of colored silks. A brunette chooses a yellow and black one with heavy fringes, while a blonde takes a soft baby blue and white one. One black-eyed belle has packed a gorgeous crimson one.

Fraudulent Sweetbreadsa.
“A true sweetbread is perhaps the most wholesome meat that can be eaten,” said a doctor yesterday, ‘‘but you are never able to get it. The sweetbread proper is the pancreas, which is one of the most effective agents in promoting digestion, but the sweatbrerd of trade is usually obtained from the throats of cattle and is what is called the thyroid gland. This gland rests against the windpipe, and while its texture is simi- lar to that of the real sweetbread, it has not the same beneficial qualities. But some butchers, in order to make money, pass off the salivary gland, that which furnishes the saliva located in the cheeks, for asweetbread. This is the most in- ferior substitute for all, The pancreas or real sweetbread is a most dainty morsel, It is of triangular form, while the sweetbreads obtained from the throat are of an oval form. But what is the use of making people dissatisfied? They have been eating thyroid and sali- vucy glands for sweetbreads for years and have been satisfied.
