Game Cancelled Last Night; Capitals Unable To Land

The first local cancellation of an Atlantic Coast Senior Hockey League game occured at the Forum last night when the Fred- ericton Capitals were unable to it? a team. NEW YORK (AP:--The suspen- sion of eight prominent trotting drivers was ended Monday by George P. Monaghan. New York state harness racing commissioner, but he refused to lift a one-year ban against the president of the Standardbred Owners Association.

Burnett now has 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points. three more than Ray Powell of Quebec Aces who failed to get a point. Lulu Denis of Montreal gathered in one goal and two assists to take over lliird place in the of- iical standing from teammate Orval Tessier who drew a blank.

Banff Winter Carnival Opens .On Wednesday

l BANFF. Alta., (CP) - This Rocky Mountain g town's annual winter carnival opens Wednesday with more attractions than a tltrce-ring circus.

The festive glow of gay bunting has already formed on Banff ave- nue. the main street of the Dic- turesque resort centre surround- ed by stately mountain peaks.

The carnival. sponsored as a community effort has been a reg- ular wing-ding for 36 years. An .estimated 15,000 persons attended llsst year. Hotels have been book- ed to capacity for a month.

Champions Stray Over The Limit

NEW YORK. (AP)-Two world boxing champions. lightweight Jimmy Carter and welterweight Johny Sexton, stray over the weight limit this week to pick up some cash in non-title bouts.

Carter's Friday bout at Boston with welterweight Tony DeMarco. is hometown favorite. could well be the bout of the week. It prob- ably will sell out the Boston gar- den. The champ gets a 525.000 guarantee plus a privilege of 30 per cent of the gate.

Since Carter stopped Paddy De- Marco no relation Nov. 17 to win back his title. he has had only one bout. a 10-round decision over Bobby Woods.
