S'side Kinsmen Rink Opened

-The Summersldo Kinsmen: rink opened Christmas afternoon with a very large group of skat- en enjoying a good lheet of ice and favorable weather for youth's favorite winter pastime. Spirited music came over the sound sys- tem, adding to the enjoyment of the occasion. The skaters went on the ice at 2 p.m. and skated for about two and a half hours.

MB. SAMUEL DIJNNING

Then passed peacefully away at his home in French River, P.E.l., on December 7, alter a brief ill- ness, Mr. Samuel Dunning a high- ly respected resident of that com- munlty.

He was born in Clinton, 80 years ago and was a son of the late John Dunning and his wife Elizabeth Arthur.

When a young man he learned the carpenicry trade and through- out his long life rarely spent an, idle day. He was a skilled and faithful workman, of a quiet and unassuming nature, and possessed of the highest integrity. he oc- cupied a high place in the affec- tion of all with whom he came in contact. In his early life he became a member oi the Method- ilt Church in Margate, and later the United Church in New Lon- don. where with his wife and family he lived for over forty years. When he retired from the more strenuous work of carpentry

he moved to French River where he carried on a wood-working shop.

He was a most obllging and unselfish neighbor, and his place in the community will be linrcl to fill. Three and a half years ago he and his wife celebrated the happy event of their golden wed- ding anniversary.

He leaves to cherish the mem- ory of a loving husband and fa- ther, his wife, one daughter (Elsie) Mrs. Ernie Ferris of Tor- onto. and two sons, Ernest, teach- ing at Fort Erie, 0nt., and Fos- ter of Summerside, also grand-children.

The funeral service was held in Long River United Church and was conducted by Rev. S. H. Has- lam. assisted by Rev. D. A. Camp- bell of the Presbyterian Church, in New London. Mr. 1-laslam in his brief but comforting address paid tribute to the life of the de- ceased, not as one who in the race of life looked for acclaim from the crowd. but as one who kept his eye on the goal, the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The large numbers of friends who gathered at the home and church were expressive of the high esteem in which ho was held.

The hymns lung wero, The Sands of Time are Sinking, What A Friend We Have In Jesus, and by request The Old Rugged Cross, the favorite hymn of the deceased.

The pail bearer: were Maura. Harold Bernard, Fred Bernard. Elmer MacLecd. Frank Brown. Henry Meek and George I-Icwatt. Interment was in Mnrgata Cem- etery.

Kinsmen Aided In Christmas Work

Members of the Summarside Kinsmen Club. who so unseifishly exemplify the spirit of Christmas each year by providing Christmas dlnnoin for needy families and toys for the children who might other- wise be forgotten have found that their task is often made lighter and more sgreeaible by the assistance received from people in all walks of life and from young and old alike.

This year was no exception for while preparations for filling the -hampers with food and toys was under way the committee in charge received a visit from three little girls Mlngiw '4 supply of presents which they themselves had been busy for some dayl preparing. Than consisted of dolls. little dog- glu. curtail. teddy bears. etc., which the children had made with their own hands to be given to the Kinsmen Christmas tree project for distribution on Christmas eve to needy children.

-Mr. and Mrs. R-ay Brown of Richmond are patients in the Prince County Hospital fouowing an accident which occurred one mile west of Miscouche on the main highway about 0.80 pm. on Wednesday night when their car ran into a parked truck on the side of the road and which they did not one until it was too late to avoid the collision. Hospital authorities reported last cvening that, while neither were on the danger list, both were lllI- faring from fractures and shock sustained at a result of the ac- cident. -The Union Corner Sunshine Club of United Church held their annual meeting recently in the school hall. The annual goose supper preceded the meeting and everyone enjoyed a delicious sup- per after which the meeting was called to order by Mr. Waldron at the request of the president, Mrs. Stirling Ryder. Devotions were led by the chairman after which the report of the president was read and was unanimously adopted. The year's work was gratifying. The president tendered her resign- ation after three faithful years of service in that office. Mrs. Ernest Allen was unanimously elected to that office. The work done on the church and manse on which this club paid their share was in- deed gratifying and the balance on hand, encouraging. Treasurer. Miss Mary M.acLure was re-elect- ed to that (files while Mrs. Roy Gamble was elected to the office of vice :. idcnt. The chairman commend -' the officers of the past year for their good work and pledged his support and the sup- port of the members as a. whole to the new officers for the com- ing year.
