CITY COUNCIL MEETING.

New Member of School Board Ap- pointed---Other Matters.

The regular mouthly meeting of the City Council was beld last evening. Mayor Warburion presided, aud every member of the Board wae in his place.

A letter from Tuomas Desmond regard- ing the burial of dead auimul-, was laid on the table.

A communication from William G. Mugford, complaining of a nuisance on his premises caueed by the building up of the street in his vicinity, was referred to Councillors Horne aod Nicholson with power to take action.

In compliauce with a request from the Sewer and Water Commissioners it was decided to ‘ssue debentures amounting to

| $500, tor rervices and extensions in connec-

tion with the waterworks eysiem. lt was also agreed to issue debeotures amounting to $1000 for preliminary work in coonec- tron with sewers, these debentures to be for twenty years instead of forty as asked for.

A letter was read from a tumber of merchants and other citizens regarding the by-law respecting sidewalks. They urged a modification in the en force- ment of this by-law so as to give mer~ chante and others privileges that were en- joyed in many other c.tics. The letter was laid on the table with the understand- ing that reasonable discretion was to be exercised in the matter of enforcing the by-law.
