Tee Nerth Sydney ‘Herold’ has been handed some specimens of coal taken from a seam discovered by the Rev. Father Mce- Phersor, at Frenci: Vale, ©. B. The indications are most promising, it being al- leged that the newly discovered seam is some seven feet in thickness. The quality ef the coal is what is « atled anthracite coal, which is the first ef the kind found in Cape Breton.

Tere comes a strangs story from the Clyde to the effect thst a number of shipbuild- ers have joined hands for the establishment of a large shipbuilding yard at Havre in France, to profit by the bounty offered by the French Government on iren merchant ships built in that country. They intend to give empiloy- ment, it is said, in their new enterpr.se to 3,- 000 men. A large French iron shipbuilding industry may spring from this attempt.
