e RUTON’S DOGS -- i

EDDIE RUTON became one of the foremost dog trainers in the world quite by accident. Back in 1921, his brother brought a dog to his home near Akron, Ohio. i-ltlrlie adopter] it and just for pastime taught it n few tricks. A few mouths later he presented the single dog act at Summeriand Bench, just for a lark. The act was a hit and liririic became a. Showman.

Since that time he has exhibited his trained dogs. all of them “Ailey Aristoerats” —_iust ortllnury dogs. llis success in their training ls based on lust one word-patience. That's nil it takes. he says, and no dog is ever too old to learn n new trick or two. The simpler things like flips, ta"-ehaslng, nbrobatics and tumbling. take about two or three weeks to teach. Some cl‘ the more difficult stunts, like balancing with one pnw on Hilton's thumb, tnkvs as long as four years to learn.

Most of Ruton’: dogs are of the terrier strain, although the amount and the exact type is questionable. Best results in dog training are achieved, he says, through show- ing them over and over what you want and letting them know who is . A much larger number of dogs than are actually needed are always carried by the Rutons, who spend their spore moments training the dogs. Those displaying the most intelligence are carefully groomed for future paﬂiclpatlon in the act.

ilvcryone loves a dog, particularly an intelligent dog, so there is no question that Hilton's dog net will be popular at Old Homo Weak vaudeville, afternoons and evenings oi August 15th to 15th.

Over n hundred race horses will take part in stirring contests each afternoon and interspersed will be new and unique acts of vaude- villc. Evening Shows will be fully up to those of the past but will have a finer setting of scenery and lighting effects. IN THE‘ MORNINGS cattle judging will take place ln the cattle ring with plenty of seating accommodation for hundreds of spectators. Seeihc best of the Island breeds competing.
