Financial Aid

Welcome back for another semes- ter at UPEI! The following are just some of the bursaries which are avail- able to students for second semester. Unless otherwise indicated, application forms may be picked up at Student Services. If you have any questions please contact me, Bryn Driscoll, at 566-0674 or stop by Student Services. I’m here Mondays 12:30-4:30, Tues- days 1:00-4:00, and Thursdays 1:00- 4:00. Good Luck !

UPEI Merit Awards -- Full-time Students

Several awards ranging from $125 to $300 are available for the second semester and will be awarded by the Scholarship and Bursary Committee in February. Full-time students in any year may apply. One of the major requirements considered is need. Application forms are available at the Registrar’s Office or in file 197 at Student Services. Closing date for this application is Friday, February 9, 1996.

UPEI Merit Awards -- Part-time Students (2 of $150 each)

__ The terms of these bursaries are as follows:

1. The applicant must be able to demonstrate financial need.

2. Must be registered for either 3 or 6 semester hours of credit in the second semester.

3. Must have passing grades in all courses in the last semester registered at UPEI.

4. Must be taking courses at the undergraduate level and must not have obtained a first degree.

Application forms are available at the Registrar’s Office or in file 199 at Student Services. Closing date for this application is Friday, February 9, 1996.

Residence Bursary -- Bernadine Hall ($500)

The following are the terms of reference for the above-named bursary:

1. Recipient must be a third or fourth-year student living in Bernadine Hall who has lived there for at least two years.

2. Must have an average of 65%

or better in last semester’s work and passing grades in all five subjects.

3. Must write a personal essay about what he or she has participated in during his or her years in residence. How has he or she helped to promote spirit in Bernadine Hall?

4. Selection to be made by committee from the Department of Student Services (composed of the Residence Manager or Coordinator of Residence Program, Director of Student Services, and one counsellor) with final approval given by the Scholarship and Bursary Committee.

5. Selection to be made in con- junction with other bursaries awarded from the Memorial Bursary Fund.

Applications are available at the Registrar’s Office or in file 153 at Student Services. Closing date for applications is Friday, February 9, 1996.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary Bursary

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary Bursary, in memory of Florence MacKenzie Roper for the academic year 1995-96, shall be

‘awarded to a Nursing student who has

completed the third year of studies and is currently enrolled in fourth year of the Nursing program at UPEI.

Criteria:

1. Financial need

2. Academic standing

3. Not already on scholarship of $1000 or more

Application forms are available at the Registrar’s Office or at the School of Nursing.

Are you interested in travel- ling? If you would like to study abroad, drop by Student Services and pick up an exchange booklet. The booklets must be returned to Student Services no later than Fri- day, February 9.

UPEI offers exchanges to Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Florida, and Australia. For more information on exchanges stop by Student Services and see the Student Exchange Advisor, Lynette Barrett. Office hours are as follows:
