There he swam as easily as he had glided along the bank. Old Mr. Tom wondered how it. was that. Bandy could swim so smoothly and easily when he had no fins. no flippers. no feet. iiothinc with which to swim Bandy suddenly darted forward. There was a splash in the water. Then the big Snake crawled out on land again. In his mouth was I. fish. and this he now hroceedod to swallow. How glad Old Mr. Tomi was that he was not that lish. As he watched. a sudden and dis- turbing thoucht. came to him. What if Bandy the Water Snake had cauzht Old Mrs. Toad? It was it etartliiiz and dreadful thought It could be. Yns, sir. it could he.

Old Mrs. Toad hadn't appeared anywhere. and that was very strange.

Just. then who should come along the edge of the water but Lant- lege the Great. Tllue Heron He was moi-me slowly. rarefizlly. taxing long slow steps with those. long legs of his. Very slowly and care- fully he put. each toot down. paus- In: between steps to look along the edge or the water for a Frog. and in the shallow water for a small fish, He saw Bandy the water Snake and the fish he was swal- lowinz. It was a good-sized film. It. was a temptation. He had had no lucir that morning. and he was hungry. He was tempted to try to take that lish away from Bandy.
