Difficulty of Getting Divorce.

Lonpox, Dec. 27.—A curious case, heard in a divorce court here a few days ago, was that of a young Jewece, who was married four years ago in @ registry office. Her husband left her immediately after the ceremony and went to South Africa. Since then he has not been heard of. The girl declares she did not know the cere- mony constituted a marriage, the young man assuring her that it was only a be~ trothel prior to marriage iu @ synagogue. She declares, therefore, that she married without her consent. The plea is ingen-~ jous, but ic seems unlikely to prevail, so difficult is it in England to annul a mar-~ riage et oo the traditional grounds.

This is not due to lack of offence, but from a desire not to press the law duriog the holding of the inter- national conference. It is a question whether if the Jaw had been enforced etrictly, pressure to effect a fishery treaty would not have been brought to bear on the American Commissioner.
