The.Flrst Mate read the log of the last meeting. Book reports were read by Richard Collings. Brian Mac- Lnre. Georgina Dingweil and Lorne Cudmore. These reports were discussed by the members and books were selected for next week. The remainder of the after- noon was spent reading "Against All Odds."

More than 100 business and professional men of the city met together last evening at a ban- quet in the Charlottetown Hotel in honor of Mr. W. Russel Cruik- shank. retired Royal Bank of Canada manager. and to make a
presentation in appreciation of his
fifteen years of faithful and cour- teous service here.
Mr. Frank Curtis, who acted as master of ceremonies. explained very briefly the reason for the informal gathering and expressed his great pleasure at seeing so many present.
Mr. Curtis then called upon Mr. Justice G. J. Tweedy to read the address and Mr. Gordon Avard
to make the presentation.
"One of the great advantages of being retired in the prime of life is that it gives your friends an opportunity to express their feelings of appreciation and grat- itude while you' are still posses-
sed of the faculties to understand and enjoy such expressions." the
address stated. It recalled the varied positions held by Mr. Crulckshank in the service of the Royal 'Bank of Canada. which he entered in 1912. rul- minating with his appointment as

evening recalled very many plea- sant memories and touched on his enjoyment in being associated with Mr. Cruikshank in curling and other sports. "I am glad he and his family are staying with us and assure him he will be remembered with much affection in the years to come. He is an excellent citizen and an asset to Prince Edward Island." the Pre- mier said. Mayor Stewart spoke of the helpful co-operation the city cor- poration had a I wa ys received from Mr. Cruikshank and expres- sed delight that he would con- tinue to live in Charlottetown to enjoy his years of retirement. The several speakers also paid tribute to Mr. A. W. Hyndman. who was present. for his splendid service to the people of Char-, lottetown during his years .5 manager previous to .Mr. Cruik- shank.
Mr. Cruikshank. in responding. said he appreciated very much the gesture of goodwill by so many friends and fellow citizens and said he would cherish the address and gift. "I have had many happy associations with the business people of Charlotte- "town and many interesting and pleasant experiences - my task has been a comparatively easy one. After 43 years banking ex- perience, it! years of which have been spent in Charlottetown, I have ceased to he a forcigncr and hope to spend the remainder of my days here." Mr. Cruik- shank said. "I thank you one and all for your good wishes and. for your gifts. and for the many acts of kindness extended to me throughout the years."

Railway Plans Considered By Montague Trade Boards 1
..'The King's County Board of Trade and the Montague Junior Board of Trade held a combined meeting last evening at the Bison Restaurant to discuss the C.N.R. application to discontinue pas- senger services from April to December.
The meeting was preceded by a delicious chicken dinner in the rainbow room at which Mr. R. K. Clements. president of the King's County Board. presided. Present also was Mayor Bruce H. Yeo. representing the town of Montague. Mr. Clements also pre- sided over the discussion meet- ing considering the C.N.R. brief which was read by the chair- man.
