Mr. Lupton has made some interest ing calculations on the production of the KEaglish eoal tields. He assumes as the present available supply 144,700 million tons. Cats tailed to scare them off, anda black-and-tan terrier Which occupied the premises for several days was only too glad to make his escape. The tirm was almost dishearten- ed, when the elder brother, Edward Moore, put into execution a plon which has worked like acharm. He set two traps in the warehouse, temptingly baited with roasted cheese, and was rewarded on Thursday last by their being occupied by two gigantic rats. He then bought two toy bells and fastened them with wire, one around the neck of one of the rats and the other to the other's tail. The tinkling of bells attached to the rats, which were then released, had the effect of so scaring the other rats that not one has been seen in the warehouse since — Philadelphia Times.
