A special cable to the Montreal Star from Bremen reports: “The Cavadian Steamship Company has bougat from the North German Lloyd Steamship Company the express steamers Werra and Fulda. The vessels are 10 be delivered in January, lease to the Compania Transatlantica for the traus. portation of Spanish soldiers from Cuba to Spain, They will run between Milford Haven-and Paspebiac in connection with the Atlantic and Lake Superior Railway Cenpany.

The Fulda was built at Glasgow in 1882.

Vanoovver; BC, Dec. 10.—The pro~ vincial finance minister, Hon F. Cotton, has created quite a sensation by dec'aring that the Turner ministry has left a provin< cial debt of amillion dollars, whilst the provincial ministry will slso be compelled to takeover the guarantee Fraser Valley dyking debentures of over $600,000. The land owners primarily are able, but de- clare they cannot pay the debenture in- terest. Mr, Cotton says that it will be ex~ tremely difficult to avoid a considerable additional to the provire al taxes.
