Recent unfortunate events have dictated the necessity of this, a formal apology and a clarification of the Student Union’s position.

The October 16 issues of The Gem, the Student Union- published newspaper, was of- fensive and insulting to many. Certainly there was material included in that issue which should never have been printed. On behalf of the Stu- dent Union, we apologize to all for the errors which have been made.

This week’s Gem was the culmination of numerous communication problems among and between the Gem staff and the Student Union.

To the women on campus who took our page seriously and were offended, we offer our sincere apologies again. But we feel that it is we who have degraded ourselves by putting in the offensive ma-

terial. We made a judgement that our material wasn’t all that bad but we were wrong. We made a mistake. And we beg your forgiveness.

To everyone else hurt in any way by our article we can only say that we are truly, very sorry.
