No won- der, then, that they think everybody lit to teach. The true end of education is to un- fold and direct nright our whole nature. Its oflice is to call fnrth powers of thought, it‘fectinn, will, and outward action; over to gain and spread happiness. Rea ing is but an instrument; cation is to teach its twst use. The intt-Ilect was created, not to receive passively a few words, dates, and facts, but to be active for the acquisition of truth. Accordingly, education should in- apire a profound love of truth, and teach the process of investigation. A sound logic, by which we mean the science of the art which instructs in the lawn of reasoning and evi- dence, in the true method of inquiry, and the source of fslsejndgtnent—is an essential part~of a good education.
