If, as the Grit papers e'a) med, the Syndicate can build the read out of the money subsidy and the sale of a emall portion of the lands granted to them, why this early issae of Twenty-five Milliors of Dollars of bonds ? Why this immense loan? this immense mortgage on the future earnings and the property of the company, collectively and as individual sharelelders? Surely there has been some mistake somewhere. If, as Mr. Blake claims, the Syndicate is getting value for $101,090,000 from the Govern- ment, and still have to make arrangements at the outset for borrowing $25,000,009 more, the people of Canada may congratu- late themselves on getting rid of the ele- phant.—Moncton 7 unes.

Otner clauses, moved by Mr. Forster, giving power to the courts on applica.ion for determination of judicial rent to impose condiions as to laborers’ cottages, and providing that the land com- mission shall make yearly reports to the Viceroy was also added to the bill.

The summary of the work of the army worm in this state shows that the territory just north of the centre of the State and extending eastward to the eastern boundary has been ravaged. In Michigan, the worm has appeared in several counties.

Drapwoop, D. T., July 21.

The opening out of the Caledonia mine at Terra Valle, caved in last night, burying seven miners. Three were taken out alive, four are supposed to be killed. Wasaineton, July 2]. Havana advices state that during the week ending Jnly 16, there were sixteen deaths from yellow fever, the number of eases being about 110. The shipping at Santiago de Cuba has been invaded by yellow fever. Sagua La Grande is also reported as being infected Havana, July 21. Small pox is raging in St. Demingo to a fearful extent. Parties are daily organized to help to bury the victims.
