“ On my .arrival at Labrador about the begin- ning of July my attention was immediately direet- ed to the large quantity of codfish drifting about in all direetious, dead and dying. At the lowest estimation there must have been thousands of quintals. I saw one string ofdead and dying fish, which at the lowest estimation could not have been less than 5 miles long by 1 broad, drifting past. How tlw fish were killeé is not known, as every season I have seen some dead fish floating about, supposed te have been killed by the ice, but never before have I seen ench large quantities as L have seen this season. Fatal ACCIDENT.—We regret to learn that a young woman, servant in the family of Hon. J. W. Johnston, residing at Mount Amelia, Dart- mouth, was fatally injured last evening while en- gaged in filling a fluid lamp, the inflammable material explodmg in consequence of the same having been brought into too close proximity with the flame. On the evening of the 23rd, Mr. Edward Allison. Jr., of St. John N. B., accideutly shot himself, and at last accounts was lying in a precarious cou- dition. He was (says the Globe) in his own house, and in the course of the evening, while explaining to his wife the mode of working a revolver, which he bad in bis possession, beiug unaware that one particwar barrel was charged, he inadvrtantly turned it towards him, and it went off, the bail entering his left breast, taking a downward diree- tion and passing out through his back.
