Jock talk has never be— fore had the opportunity of congratulating a Panther student for winning a Canadian championship so we'll start this-off by really going to a peak never before thought of and offer feliciations to the Orwell, P.E.I. student, Lyn MacLeod, who has brought fame to the University and province by winning the NORTH AMERICAN finals of,the- International Harness Racing Championship. _ -Ifiasmuch aspthis, combined with her winning the Canadian chamionship, gives her a'total of $2 ,000 in scholarships to the University of her‘ choice we are pleased that she is staying with us at UPEI. We love to see that money comming to the province & staying this 5 side of Northumberland Strait. . , We were also very well pleased with the Panther Hockey team as they took_ a doubleheader from the Red Devils from UNB. as seems to be the pattern in games this year the first period of the first game looked as though we were going to have a lot of trouble with the visitors as they outskated & out-~ hustled our heroes& left the

Sunday's game was a good exhibition of hockey and Gerald Butler gave notice that we have no worries about goalkeeping this year as he shut out the
Red Devils. The Panthers
played good defensive hockey & topped UNB by
a 3~O margin. We sat between two who compiled - statistics & there is ’1 a considerable variation in their count of the number of stops Gerald made, I think John Neville said about 32 while
the Guardian's Donnie Morrison made it 36.
We have no idea which is correct but the big thing to remark is that there were many "Quality" stops. At the other end of the. rink the visiting goalie, Jones, was also spectacular. We noted that on one
shift Doug MacLean had two point blank shots from close in and Jones came
up with miraculous blocks on each. The game was protested by UNB on a disallowed goal which
came with UNB having an extra man on the ice.
