Although it was bl ed as a comedy there was plenty of pathos in the character Elllston Drury. an elderly actor, head of a troupe trying to make ends meet by play- ing the small towns.

As the story unfolded. it was revealed that s certain stage- struck lady who had a habit of giving money to broken down actors intended to help the little troupe along financially. Another lady with romantic ideas was llounding the pompous Drur sending him a carnation after every l-formance.

Ln e dark regarding the ldentlt es of each lady, Drury staged a drunken scene. trying to rid himself of the unwelcome camations- Unfortunately he did his act before the wrong lmdg -- the one with the money -a.n he and his troupe were left penni- less.
