CLINTON W. I. On Tuesday, December 9th, the Clinton Women's Institute held their regular meeting at the home oi Mrs. Leslie Paynter. The meet- ing opened by singing the "Ode" followed by repeating the Creed in unison. Twelve members answered the roll call by exchanging Christ- mas gifts. There was one visitor present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, approved and signed. Bills were on motion paid. 531.50 was collected for the Pro- testant Orphanage. The sick com- mittee reported iour calls made. Two members paid their fees. It was moved and seconded that s5.00 be given to the T. B. League. Correspondence was read anrl discussed. On the evening of December 1st. the North River Women.-1 Institute et at the home or Mrs. Harold ounker. 21 members and one vis- itor being present. The meeting opened with the Creed iollowed by the Roll Call and minutes or November meeting. The report of sick and school com- mittees was then heard and a bill oi sl38 was paid for articles for East Wiltshlre school, also a bill of 34.50 for a road sign for North River. 52.30 was handed in for Cod Liver Oil capsules. The correspondence was then read and discussed. It was decided to send 35.00 to the T. B. Fund, and also that all sick and shut-lns in the district: would be remember- ed at. Christmas. Eleanor Younker invited the members to her home for the Jan- uary meetlng. roll call to be ans- wered with, "What I I.ook Forward to in the New Year", The lunch committee will be Mrs. Harry Scott, Mrs. Ernest Ladner, Mrs. James Vickerson and Eleanor Younker.

The meeting then adjourned and lunch was served by hostess and committee in charge.

NEWTOWN CROSS W. I.

On Tuesday evening, December 2nd, nine members oi the Insti- tute gathered at. the home of Mrs.

Settling at Sarhia, Ont. follow- ing her arrlval in Canada from Germany last year, Mrs. Anna Pllous denied recent reports that she had offered to sell her six- year-old sou Allan for 31,000 to a prominent Sarnia merchant. She said she offered him up for adop- tion only to get him out of slum conditions in which she and her husband were now living. Federal immigration officials are investi- gating the case of the boy, de- scribed as "bright and intelligent” who has been placed in a tempor- ary foster home by the Children's- Aid Society.

The minutes were read and ap- proved. Thcre was no correspond- ence. It was decided to buy a Christmas treat consisting of ap- ples for the school children.
