New prunswicx.—The St. John’s Courier, referr- ing, to the commercial news conveyed by the last stea- mer, said: ‘ The mercantile portion of the community were nota litile gratified to find that the many reports of the failure of parties in England, connected in busi- ness in this province, were entirely withont foundation.’

Desperate Veneeance.—The danger of a man assuming the right of taking the law into his own hands, was fearfully displayed at Dartmouth, last Wed- nesday. The affair commenced with a dog belonging toa young man named Dunn attacking a pig on the pre- mises of a person named Bel]. Dunn was driving past at! the time in a waggon,butstopped to take the dog offjand secured it in the waggon. Hell instantly rushed out of his house with a gun, and desired Dunn to throw the dog out that he might shoot it. Dunn refused, and Bell fired into the waggon ; the charge entered Dunn’s hand, with which he was holding the dog down, and the dog’s neck. The wound the man thus received was very severe, but itis healing very rapidly under the care of Dr. Jenn- ings. The gun was loaded with duck shot.—Halifar Recorder.

Loss,about £350. ‘Three menofthe name of Sandford, have been arrested on suspicion, and lodg- ed in the gao] at Windsor.

The Provincial Parliament of Canada was dissolved! by a Proc!emation dated the 6th inst., and a New Par- liament called, the writs to bear date on the 6th De- cember, and be returnadie onthe 24th January. The; Elections will probably take place throughout the Pro-| vince in the course of the present month, or early in the next. The New Parliament inay not, however, be call- ed ‘forthe despatch: of business’ before the end of Feb- ruary or ihe beginning of March.
