“I think the*gravest ‘danger at present in this problem is that the French will push too hard. Then they will set off an Eng- lish reaction that will grow in hostility. At present. one can clearly see a development of this hostility in parts of Ontario, in Alberta and British Columbia particularly.”

Quebec's problem jn relation to the rest of Canada is not un- like Canada’s problem in rela- tion to the United States, Munro said. The U.S. economic invas- ion of Canada was continuing “at an appalling pace.”

“Economically, we are in dan- ger right now of becoming an American satellite if we are not

already one.”

Yet Canadian communities and governments were working like beavers to get more _U.S. plants established in Canada

“We are an inconsistent. at times quite unpredictable peo- ple who._hike most, try to hold to a high principle and break down when the Joca! self-interest is on the line.”
