One heat in the 2.40 class was trotted Tuursday afternoon. There were four start: ers: Joe Hooker, St Stephen; John McCoy's Albert D; Maud R., Truro; Sir Garnet, Truro. Albert D. wen with Maud R. a second, Sir Garnet third and Joe Hooker last. The second heat of the 2.40 class was trotted on Saturday morning. Albert D. won with Maud R. second, Joe Huoker third and Sir Garnet ast. Maud R. made the race a very exciting one, being a close second all the way round.

The third heat of the 2.40 class was one of the best ever trotted in Fredericton, and the excitement at the close was great. Maud R. and Albert D. trotted almost neck and neck the whole way round, and when the wire was reached there was not a foot between them, A bert D. having the advantage. Albert D. was put back for running. Maud R. did not fireak all the way round. Sir Garnet was third and Soe Hovuker fourth,

The fourth heat in the 2.40 class was next trotted. Joe Hooker won; Albert D. second; Maud R., third; Sir Garnet, fourth. Time, 2.4).

Fifth heat in 2.40 class: Maud R., first; Albert D, second; Joe Hooker, third Sir Gar- net, fourth, Time, 2.43.

That is the proposed speed of the electric postal railway of the near future. One has already been erected and is being equipped as an experiment at Laural, about 20 miles out from Baitimore. The theory is a sort

‘of compromise between the pneumatic tube

and the ordinary railway. A miniature railway train for the carriage of mails and light parcels with great speed over short distances, without the attendance of any drivers, firemen, conductors or brakemen, is the idea. The experimenta) road now being equipped has three rails, one above the car for carrying the current, and two beluw which carry the cars. The cars are built of sheet iron, and are two feet square and 21 feet long. Speed will be reguiated and power or brakes applied by electricity solely. Two cars will constitute a train, and a speed of five miles a minute is ex- pected to beattained. If the experiment at Laural .acets the expectation of the pro- jectors, similar roads for the conveyance of mails and light parcels will be at once laid down, one between Baltimore and Washington, and another between St. Paul and Chicago.
