The Provincial Live Fox Show at. Charlottetown November 10th ii to l4th brings very keenly to mu attention the fact that the cui- -,lninating point in the ranchers routine has pretty nearly arrived. By that I mean the pelting sea- ' son. During the months of Jan- uary, February and March the fox breeders attention was cen- tred on mating problems, how t0 get the best results with the best . males in his ranch. Then came i the arrival of the pups-some good l results, some fair, some blanks. ‘ Then the weaning time. and next the development of the little ones into large, healthy foxes 0min! the months of June to August. Next. the fur production period when one has to be so particular in keeping foxes clean and in

duce clear. sparkling, full-furred pelts 1n all these different stages

cised in no small measure in order ‘ to arrive at success.

Judge to Explain Methods of Plaeings.
For a number of years judging was done “on the quiet." Placings were made, during which absolute silence prevailed, and many ex- hibitors overt held their breath After the placing: were made the exhibitors took their foxes back to the cages, many dissatisfied. with the Judge's placlngs, and nluch talking ‘behind the Judge's back" would follow.
Two lears ago the show Com- i‘ tlon asked the Judge. Mr. Geo. A. Callbeck if he would explain his placings on the top three or four animals, after the Judging was over in each Class. Mr. Callbeck consented to do this. with the re- suit there was practically no dis- satisfaction among the Exhibitors after the show was over.
